Berita 24 English - Tesla Inc has cancelled three online recruitment events for China slated for this month, the latest step after CEO Elon Musk announced job cuts at the electric car manufacturer, stating that some sectors were "overstaffed."

However, Musk has not remarked on personnel in China, which produced more than half of the automaker's vehicles worldwide and generated a quarter of its sales in 2021.

The company cancelled the three events for roles in sales, R&D, and its supply chain initially slated for June 16, 23, and 30 without providing an explanation, WeChat alerts indicated late Thursday.

Friday, Tesla did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

There was no notification of a June 9 event to recruit personnel for "smart manufacturing" positions, and it was not immediately apparent that it had occurred as planned.

Aerodynamics engineers, supply chain managers, store managers, manufacturing supervisors, and labourers are among the more than one thousand job positions posted on the social media platform that are still accepting CV submissions.

In an email reviewed by Reuters last week, Musk had a "terrible feeling" about the economy.

Musk stated in a Friday email to employees that Tesla would reduce paid headcount by ten percent since it had become "overstaffed in many areas," but that hourly headcount would increase.

After the Chinese commercial centre began a two-month COVID-19 lockdown at the end of March, production at Tesla's Shanghai plant was severely affected.

This quarter's output is expected to decline by more than a third compared to the previous quarter, exceeding Musk's forecast.
