Berita 24 English - The National Health Commission said on Friday that China had 1,404 new COVID-19 infections on September 8. Of those, 301 had symptoms and 1,103 didn't, so only 301 had symptoms.

That's compared to the day before, when there were 1,439 new cases. China counts both symptomatic and asymptomatic cases separately.

There were no new deaths, just like the day before, so the total number of deaths in the country stayed at 5,226.

As of September 8, 246,328 people with symptoms had been confirmed in mainland China.

Beijing, the capital of China, reported 17 new symptomatic cases and two new asymptomatic cases. This is up from seven symptomatic cases and three asymptomatic cases the day before, according to data from state television and the local government.

Local government data showed that there were no symptomatic cases and only two asymptomatic cases in Shanghai. This is a change from the day before, when there were three symptomatic cases and ten asymptomatic cases.

Most people in Shenzhen, a technology hub in southern China, were locked out of their homes over the weekend because of anti-virus restrictions. On Monday, these restrictions were eased, and the city reported 54 new COVID-19 infections that were spread locally, up from 25 the day before.

On September 8, 71 new COVID-19 infections spread locally were reported in Chengdu, China, down from 116 the day before, according to data released by the city government on Friday.

Of the cases that were reported, 39 had symptoms and 32 did not. Most of the city's lockdown curbs from last week were extended so that another round of mass testing could be done.
