Berita 24 English - As the struggle for Ukraine's east raged 100 days after Russia's invasion, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that Ukraine expected to receive more weapons from allies as a result of a new US pledge.

WEAPONS AND FIGHTING

* While Ukrainian forces have had some success fighting Russians in the city of Sievierodonetsk, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that the general military situation in the Donbas region has not altered.

* According to the governor of the Donetsk region, Russian soldiers in Ukraine's east are attempting to march south towards the vital Ukrainian-held cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

* Civilians are seeking refuge from Russian bombardment beneath a chemical plant in Sievierodonetsk, where authorities believe it may still have deadly supplies on hand, according to the regional governor.

* According to sources, the US aims to sell Ukraine four drones that can be armed with Hellfire missiles. They would have no effect on Russia's military operation, according to the Kremlin.

ECONOMY

* The United States announced new sanctions against Russia, naming numerous yachts related to Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as an oligarch who owns a large steel company as targets.

* Russia called the European Union's plan to phase out Russian oil imports "self-destructive."

* Ukraine increased its primary interest rate from 10% to 25% to combat double-digit inflation and defend the hryvnia as commercial activity picks up.


* After much fighting with Hungary, the European Union gave final approval to fresh sanctions on Russian energy and the country's largest bank, Sberbank.

* President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has urged the West to increase its arms shipments.

* Russia stated that a meeting between Putin and Zelenskiy is not ruled out.

* Ukraine's foreign ministry announced that it is working with international partners to establish a United Nations-backed mission to restore Black Sea shipping routes.

* Despite harsh sanctions, the Kremlin claims Russia has no plans to close "the portal" to Europe that Tsar Peter the Great tried to open 300 years ago.
