Berita 24 English -  As early as next week, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is scheduled to visit Toyota Motor Corp's headquarters, according to two sources with knowledge of the subject, underlining his campaign for higher pay ahead of next month's upper house elections.

Toyota, the largest and most valuable firm in Japan, reportedly offered the trip to Toyota city in central Japan, according to persons speaking anonymously.

During annual labour talks earlier this year, the automaker, widely regarded as a barometer for Japan Inc, agreed to completely meet its union's demand for annual wage and incentive increases.

A Toyota representative refused to comment on the visit.

The incumbent Liberal Democratic Party of Kishida is projected to perform well in the July 10 election, despite mounting cost pressures on households. The unionised Toyota employees are perceived to support the opposition.

Japanese media reports that with this visit, Kishida intends to emphasise his call to companies to raise wages. Decades of deflation have resulted in stagnant wages for the majority of workers in the world's third-largest economy.

The visit will involve a plant tour, according to the Asahi newspaper.
