- Late Friday, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Yunnan province in southwest China, killing three people and injuring 28, the Yunnan provincial government said on Saturday.

According to data from the China Earthquake Networks Center, the quake struck at a depth of 8 kilometres (5 miles) and was followed by aftershocks.

According to CCTV, authorities stated that while some transportation lines were cut due to the collapse of some roads and landslides, electricity, telephones, and the internet remained operational.

CCTV reported that an emergency has been declared, and rescue efforts have begun in Dali, a city of 134,000 people in Yunnan province located about 24 kilometres (15 miles) from the epicentre.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake also struck western China's Qinghai province on Saturday. Authorities have reported no fatalities as a result of the quake.
